Seed Paper Issues

Seed paper is a really cool idea but unfortunately it has some challenges when it comes to printing on it.

Digital printing is out of the question and offset printing will damage a large percentage of the seeds so they will not germinate when the paper is planted, defeating the purpose of seed paper. Letterpress printing is doable but again depending on how much image is printed, a certain amount of the seeds will be damaged.

Options as far as paper color, sizes, finish (texture) and weight (thickness) are limited. Especially due to

the limitation of the thickness of the paper it is typically not suitable for folding cartons.

So while the idea of seed paper is a fun one, the practicality and expense of printing it often limits its use.
