Glass Printing and Shipping Info

To ensure the best possible outcome on your glass printing project, please follow these instructions:

Art Preparation

Please supply us with a print-ready PDF file. In creating the PDF make sure you are starting with a vector file with all fonts outlined. Art MUST be actual size we will be printing and in one 100% spot color for each ink color. If project is only one color it can all be 100% black (no CMYK) and indicate the ink color* we will be printing. No need to show the color of the glass if it is not clear glass. Text should not be smaller than 5 pt and thin fonts and/or thick/thin fonts must be avoided. If you have the room, go with 6 pt type or larger! Lines should not be thinner than .5 pt. A ¼” clear margin (no print) much be kept at the bottom and top of the piece as well as where the image meets as it wraps around. The top margin must be below any curve or neck on the piece. These are basic guidelines and all art is subject to our review and recommendations prior to printing. We will forward a PDF proof showing print details prior to printing.

*Color Ink

If you will be printing in a color other than black or white, color MUST be specified using the Pantone Solid Coated Color Guide. We cannot use RGB, CMYK, HEX or any other color system when printing on glass items. We will do our best to come as reasonably close as possible to the Pantone color specified. It’s important to note that exact color matches may not be possible and colors often can look different once printed on the piece. If color is very important we recommend ordering a printed sample at additional cost. VERY IMPORTANT: Light colors often print even lighter on glass and may not look like you are expecting. Very light colors, especially pastels should be avoided.

Ordering your glass

Order extra! We try very hard to limit misprints but it is impossible to guarantee there will be none. Some types of glass such as frosted glass cannot be wiped clean for reprinting, as the ink gets into the pores of the glass and cannot be completely cleaned off leaving a haze. Also remember you may have some damage loss in shipping as well as when filling or pouring your product. We recommend the following percentages for overs:

  • Finished quantity of 250 or less – add 10% to the order
  • Finished quantity of 251 to 500 – add 5% to the order
  • Finished quantity of 501 on up – add 2% to the order

Percentage of overs listed should be doubled if printing in two colors.

Let us know if we should print all of the overs (billed at the same price per piece as the quote) or if you do not want the overs printed and we should ship them to you blank. We also offer storage service. Ask us for more details if interested.

See Shipping Info section further down in regards to how glass is packed and shipped, and how to reduce packing/shipping costs.

Instructions to your glass vendor (VERY IMPORTANT!)

Be sure to instruct the vendor to include a packing slip and/or labeling the boxes with your company (or your name) listed as the purchaser. If you have a project name include that as well if possible. Forward Norman’s Printery a copy of what you have ordered including the name of the vendor, item description, quantity(s) and SKU number(s). Also let us know anticipated delivery date.

NOTE: Unless the items you order come with closures (caps, lids, droppers, etc.) attached, please DO NOT have the closers shipped to us. Ship those to your address. Additional cost may be incurred should we need to remove them to print the pieces and/or repack and ship closers.

Ship to our address listed below and note that we do have a standard truck-height loading dock for pallet delivery (no lift-gate needed) as well as a ground level overhead door:

Shipping Info

When we receive your order

Upon receipt of delivery of your order we will verify that the items are exactly what you indicated we would be receiving and inspect for obvious damage. It is not always possible for us to open and inspect every carton but should we find broken or damaged product at time of receipt or when printing we will be sure to let you know.

Shipping the finished order to you

You should arrange for shipping of the finished project. That way you can shop for the best rate. Be sure to tell your shipper this is glass (if applicable) and we recommend adding appropriate insurance. We can recommend messengers for shipping in a 50 mile radius to our location. UPS and FedEx pick up at our location daily and we do have a loading dock, eliminating the added cost of tailgate service on our end.

PLEASE NOTE:

If your glass comes in shrink wrapped packages like you see below, there will be an additional charge for packing it after printing as we cannot shrink wrap it as it came, as the printed image will scuff if the bottles touch each other. Additional cost typically runs 10¢ to 20¢ per piece depending on packing needed.

If your glass comes shrink wrapped additional packaging will be required. See explanation above.

If possible, always purchase your items in “egg crate” separated boxes pictured below to avoid the additional cost of packing after printing:

Egg create packaging is preferred as we can simply repack and ship to you.
